Involves technical acumen for planning, designing, developing, implementing and administering data-based systems that acquire, prepare, store and provide access to data and metadata. Maintains and optimizes systems and migrates data and systems as needed. Ensures integrity and completeness of data and workflow, manages and / or develops data practices, databases and information systems as well as guidelines, dictionaries, registries and / or services. May include interpretation of scientific research data artifacts as well as mediation across science and technology domains and long-term data care. As information architect and data steward, designs systems, data products and / or data production processes while focusing on data curation, data exchange, data security, data integrity and information environments. (Re)evaluates frameworks, strategies, standards and standards-making activities. May involve work with a project-level data repository, a center or an archive.
The Business Intelligence Data Architect is responsible for designing, developing and supporting robust solutions that foster the collection, integration, analysis, reporting and dash boarding of information in support of the campus at large. The Business Intelligence Data Architect is the data design expert working to create solutions to meet the ever-changing information needs of the university. This individual will engage in all aspects of the data lifecycle including source system integrations, data modeling, schematic modeling, reporting, analytics, and visualizations.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing, mapping and modeling large data sets and leverage both strong technical and analytical skills to bring data together to answer complex business questions. The Business Intelligence Data Architect utilizes various data extraction, data aggregation, and business intelligence tools to create rich data environments for advanced analytics and reporting. This individual possesses a solid technical background in database technologies, preferably has experience with cloud-based data warehousing platforms and is passionate about business intelligence. This position will play a key role in formulating a cloud strategy for data management and will significantly contribute to meeting the information needs of the university.
The Office of Planning and Budget's Data Management team oversees and supports campus data warehouse services in partnership with Information Technology Services. Over the past 20+ years, the campus data warehouse has grown and matured in response to campus-wide reporting needs across 35+ subject-areas from 50+ data sources. Reports available through the reporting tool InfoView (SAP Business Objects), both standard and ad hoc, are widely used on campus for both daily operational information and longitudinal trend analysis. The topical areas of reporting are varied and include enterprise system reporting, such as financial operations, personnel and payroll, academic information, giving and donations, campus facilities, etc., as well as unit-specific operations such as dining point of sale, purchasing turn-time, equipment management, etc.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Advanced knowledge of data management systems, data administration practices and standards.
Deep knowledge and experience of database administration techniques and practices, including query optimization and available components.
Advanced knowledge relating to logical data design, data warehouse design, and data integration as well as the management of web content or other unstructured data.
Ability to prepare complex data models unassisted.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
