The Data Management Office is responsible for the design and implementation of strategies that enable the university to acquire, manage, analyze, share, and govern all university data, regardless of source, use and media. In close collaboration with constituents across the campus, the Data Management Office sets the data strategy, and operationalizes that vision. The Director of Data Management identifies data-related business requirements and objectives, and is the conduit between the data users and the technical staff.
Under general direction of the Chief Data Officer (CDO), the Director of Data Management is responsible for developing and implementing robust data management policies and procedures, and for supporting the transition to a Campus-wide managed data environment. This includes development and maintenance of governance documentation; definition and monitoring of data policies, procedures, and processes; development of data standards; performance of scheduled and ad hoc data quality inspections; identification of data gaps and data sources; and to support the management of projects to upgrade or expand infrastructure and tools. The Director of Data Management partners with other divisions and departments to design, develop, implement, and maintain a persistent managed data environment across campus.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree and seven years of relevant experience in data management, data analytics, or related fields.
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
Experience developing data governance and management policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of SQL in an Oracle and/or SQL Server environment.
Working knowledge of database technologies and environments including data lakes and cloud services.
Knowledge of Data Warehousing and ETL concepts, including source to target mapping; transformations; error handling; job control; logging; alerting; and scheduling.
Knowledge of complex report writing and metadata creation, implementing effective upgrades/patches, managing production scheduling, and administering user access.
Demonstrated consultative skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate support.
Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and system analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and create or revise policies and procedures.
Skilled coach and mentor to team members and ability to contribute to the success and development of teams through informal and formal means.
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.

Working knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, University infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Master of Science degree in data analytics, data science, or related fields
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
An analytical mindset that is technically oriented with demonstrated experience using problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to achieve desired results.
Knowledge and experience with the DAMA Data Management Book of Knowledge guidelines and frameworks.
Significant knowledge and experience with data management and integration, data warehouses, data visualization tools, and business intelligence.
Experience with Salesforce CRM, Oracle databases and data warehouse technology, and PeopleSoft.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
