Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence Architecture and Administration, the Sr. Business Objects Administrator will be responsible for administering Business Objects 4.2 reporting, BO Data Services ETL, Power BI and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) platforms in Production, Test and Development environments. These environments support of Columbia University enterprise reporting and analytics of 4,000+ users of Student, HR, Research and Financial reports. She/he will also be responsible to support departmental report development using BI Tools such as Web Intelligence (Webi), Crystal Reports, Universe Designer, Power BI & SSAS.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Serves as the primary Business Intelligence Application administrator and performs administration and production support activities for BOE4.2 (with CMC) reporting, BO Data Services ETL, Power BI and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) platforms. -Performs upgrades, patches, monitoring, maintenance, back up, performance tuning and operational activities of all Business Intelligence applications. -Communicates with vendor as needed (submitting tickets, participating in technical calls) to resolve system issues (e.g., SAP) -Works closely with DBA, Infrastructure, Security teams to ensure system health and minimize down time -Proactively stays current on updates, patches and new releases of BI software (Business Objects, Power BI, Azure) -Contributes to the innovation on the team by researching new technologies such as Machine Learning, Data Lakes, etc. -Analyze and troubleshoot errors raised by colleagues and customers alike, providing customer service in a professional, friendly and relatable manner -Manages and optimizes all Business Objects services and resources. -Monitors reports, users, resources and tunes as needed. -Supports security infrastructure of BO users, authentication requirements, daily-automated load/updates of security data through the BOE SDK and the Central Management Console (CMC). -Manages system access and security per CUIT best practices (i.e. CAS, password specifications). -Supports report scheduling and ensures successful delivery through the UC4 scheduler. -Implements and supports report promotion process across environments using SAP BO tools (life cycle manager). -Collects BOE audit data, repository metadata and document for broader user base. -Creates and enforces administration and report developer best practices. -Supports development, debugging, organization of Universes, Webi, Crystal and other reporting tools. -Works with cross-functional teams to solve business critical issues. -Provides guidance and mentoring to other administrators/programmers. -Possess strong customer focus, along with effective written and oral communication skills. -Work with minimal supervision and maintain the SLA of all availability, performance (service packs and fix pack) and operational Service requests. -Weekend and off-hour work may be necessary on occasion. -All other duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. -Minimum 4-6 years work related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: -4+ years' experience as a Business Objects administrator using BOE4.1 or higher with at least 500 users on a Windows/Linux environment. -4+ years hands on experience with CMC administration and configuration, life cycle manager, access levels, debugging server issues and platform support tool -2+ years' using Business Objects reporting tools (i.e. Crystal Reports, Webi, workspaces, Universe Builder, IDT, Webi Rich Client, etc.) -1+ years' supporting Business Objects Data Services administration -2+ years' using Oracle and PL/SQL (or SQL Server). -Good analytical, organizational and multi-tasking skills a must. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. . - Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise. - Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects. - Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential. - Ability to work with minimal supervision. - Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications: -6+ years' related work experience in IT working with reporting solutions. -Experience with Business Objects SDK and/or Web Intelligence SDK. -SSO and UI Customization of BO Tools like Launchpad, Fiori and openDoc -Business Objects certification. -Experience with ETL Tools (i.e. BO Data Services, Informatica, Data Integrator). -Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI report development and gateway administration -Knowledge of SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) -Knowledge of Data Modeling with Star Schema using Kimball Data Mart methodology. -Query optimization experience. -MS Project experience. -Knowledge of Java, J2EE, DHTML
