The Director of Clinical Quality Improvement will lead the development of best practices and drive process change to achieve optimal results and high reliability in the care delivered to patients. Will support clinical departments and divisions in evaluating outcomes and processes to support improvements in objectives around standardization and utilization. Provides for internal strategic planning efforts and implementing continuous quality improvement programs. Data management and submission of public data to CMS and other licensing and regulatory bodies.
Responsible to lead and drive change via use of lean methodology both within team and throughout organization. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets. Determines department objectives in accordance with overall strategic plan. Position reports to the Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer.
Manages the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical QI programs. Generates budgets, timelines, and work plans, and executes them through subordinates.
Manages the development and utilization of advanced metrics and analytics for use in QI processes.
Implements operational processes that contribute to cooperative, effective and efficient results across all departments and/ or facilities.
Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation and management, and staff development. Develops a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives.
Advises and influences senior management on regulatory changes and state-of-the-art advances in systems, technologies, data management, methodologies, the latest industry trends, developments, and best practices.
Develops relationships with clinical departments and provides training to facilitate the integration of quality and safety to benefit the overall clinical enterprise.
Works with IT managers to promote and support patient safety and quality interests in organization-wide information technology initiatives, including business intelligence and the electronic medical record system.
Implements and monitors the incident reporting processes, response, and performance improvement activities.
Works with colleagues across the medical center to ensure compliance with accreditation and licensure requirements with the clinical services environment, including JCAHO, CMS, and State of California.
Bachelor's Degree in nursing or other healthcare profession; or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.
A minimum of seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience.
Experience and proven success with in-depth knowledge of QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements.
Advanced degree in a relevant field.
Ten or more years of relevant experience.
Five or more years of managerial or leadership experience in healthcare setting. Demonstrated ability to hire, manage, develop and coach subordinates.
Lean six sigma (or similar) certification.
Experience in academic medicine.
Experience within a large, complex health system.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
