About the Position
Partners with clients to design, develop, implement and maintain business solutions regarding data management and analysis. This includes data base administration, data consolidation, data analysis and management reporting. Utilizes software to generate metrics and develops actionable recommendations. Collaborates with various function teams such as marketing, research, and IT to achieve business results.
The Associate Director of Financial Systems and Data is a key member of the Financial Administration team. This position serves as business owner, project manager, and cross-team leader, partnering directly with senior leaders and financial administration team to create, manage, enhance and support financial systems and data-related initiatives which optimize resource management and decision making.
Develops and continually improves internal financial data systems and resources to ensure accurate record retention and enable flexible and responsive reporting ability of current and historical data.
Directly supports senior leadership and financial administration team with ongoing and ad-hoc data reporting and analysis. System ownership and data oversight for financial reporting systems.
Develops and maintains detailed documentation for all critical business process and ongoing reporting.
Consults with users to define detailed requirements, analyze business needs, consider current and future business implications, translate functional into technical requirements, validate solutions, and drive business process improvement efforts.
This position reports to the Director of Financial Analysis.
Manages and plans for data/analysis requests and projects.
Provides system ownership and data oversight for financial systems including the data warehouse, long-term planning system, OnBase, and other systems that might become part of the portfolio.
Creates project plans and leads cross-functional teams to meet mission focused initiatives associated with data, data analytics, IT systems and the business operations
Develops goals and project schedules for team.
Provides consultation of customers on appropriate data management, methodological issues and statistical analyses.
Serves as business owner, project manager, and cross-team leader, partnering directly with financial administration team, senior leaders, and Kellogg Information Systems to create, manage, enhance and support faculty data systems
Collaborates with technical staff explaining needs of functional users. Serve on committees related to data structure and governance.
Ensures all system specifications meet the user needs (senior leadership, faculty and administrators,) and ensuring effective and strong partnerships with IT teams.
Reviews reports before presentation to ensure quality and accuracy.
Ensures the input of data is secure, accurate and accessible.
Develops and maintains documentation of process for quality assurance and reporting methodology

Defines, develops and communicates new standards and best practices.
Prioritizes project work for self and team to provide for efficient resource utilization.

Creates ongoing and ad-hoc data reporting and analysis; provides integral contributions to decision making
Develops reports, statistics analyses and data sets used by Financial Administration and senior leadership.
Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex statistical analysis
Determine data structure for local datasets.
Develops and documents standards for data quality and regulatory compliance pertaining to reporting.
Identifies areas of improvement, provides solutions and creates opportunities for organizational advancement.
Ensures quality and compliance by reviewing reports.
Ensures the input of data is secure, accurate and accessible.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or high degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
4 years data analysis/report writing or similar experience required.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Expertise in Excel and other data analysis tools.
Experience with Business Intelligence Stack (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS and Power BI) or related systems, Access, and enterprise systems.
Knowledge of Tableau, Microsoft BI or similar data visualization software.
Ability to write and understand SQL.
Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills and support-oriented attitude; proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships across functional areas.
Self-starter with an internal drive toward continuous improvement;
Detail-oriented and logical approach to problem solving and decision making; Ability to apply details to larger picture and understand the interconnectivity of functional areas.
Proven quality assurance and process management skills.
Leadership and teamwork skills are essential.
Experience with project management software and techniques.
4-6 years of related experience.
Comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired in Business, IT, Business Intelligence/Analytics, Computer Science or related field.
Experience developing and implementing initiatives, problem solving, managing multiple projects and leading teams.
Experience working in large, complex organizations.
