The George Mason University, Purchasing and Accounts Payable Department is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Purchasing Data Analyst to help support the department's need for complex mathematical and statistical analysis. Reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer, the Purchasing Data Analyst will utilize their expert knowledge of MS Excel and other analytical and modeling programs to analyze spending data with the goal of creating actionable information for further spend analysis and strategic sourcing recommendations.
Duties of the position will include but are not limited to:
Responsible for vendor usage data acquisition and aggregation, along with mapping and scrubbing of pertinent data to accurately determine spending;
Upgrade the Purchasing Department reporting process by creating and automating numerous MS Excel reports, combining pivot tables and charts, defining dynamic named ranges, building dashboards, and aggregating data;
Analyze strategic sourcing program for purchases being made off-contract, and recommends commodities and expenditures for inclusion;
Provide Buyers with vendor and commodity analysis such as contract comparisons and price analysis;
Prepare executive-level presentations that include statistical summaries, charts, graphs, and other supporting details; and
Participate in continuous improvement of departmental performance through the streamlining, simplification, and automation of departmental processes.
A Bachelors or Master’s degree in math, business, data science, statistics or equivalent, with two to four years of relevant work experience;
Expert-level knowledge of MS Excel with a deep understanding of working with complex formulas, v-lookups, pivot tables, data count functions, and table arrays;
Experience in MicroStrategy or a similar Business Intelligence platform (Tableau, QlikView, Power BI, Crystal Reports, etc.);
Advanced MS Access,
Working knowledge of Python and SQL;
Thrives on the challenge of choosing the right mathematical formulas or methods to solve a problem;
Experience mapping, scrubbing, extracting and analyzing data from multiple sources; and
Statistical and financial analysis skills and ability to create graphs, charts, presentations and reports.
