The Business Services Office at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites you to join our professional team by applying for the position of Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting the Controller with the university’s accounting operations, business processes, financial reporting and institutional compliance. This position has responsibility for maintaining the internal control plan and the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures. The Assistant Controller also serves as the university’s risk management officer and is responsible for overseeing PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance and export controls. This position will also be responsible for coordinating and leading business process improvement initiatives including electronic workflow, business intelligence tools, and data analytics. The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller and serves as a member of the Business Services’ management team.
This is a full time annual (12-month) position that includes a State of Wisconsin benefits package. The anticipated start date is May 28, 2019.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting.
Minimum of three years working as an accountant or comparable experience in an accounting related field.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Strong computer skills, specifically proficient in use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong aptitude for understanding and working with automated accounting systems.
Strong ability to review, analyze, and interpret financial data, policies, procedures, and regulations to create reports, complete reconciliations, prepare projections, and provide advisement.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Proficient in the development of computer queries to extract accurate data and reports.
Previous experience in higher education.
Knowledge of governmental or fund accounting.
