This is a full-time, exempt position with the option to work remotely or from the Louisville, CO office.
The role of business intelligence at EDUCAUSE is to provide quality data and analytics that lead to making better business decisions so we can achieve the strategic goals of the organization. In this role, you will develop, manage, strengthen and expand the Association’s business intelligence and data reporting capabilities. You will work closely with Association business leaders and IT to enhance the organization-wide business reporting capabilities including leading the development and maintenance of the reporting framework, tools, metrics and dashboards ensuring fact-based decision-making, and improving overall data quality. This role will have two Database Analysts reporting directly to it and will report directly to our CIO,
The individual in this position will be joining an energetic and collaborative IT team currently in the process of developing next-generation infrastructure and data architectures. The BI manager will thus have an opportunity to provide vision and strategies for the future of data management at the association.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Program Management
Lead and direct all data and information management activities including program management.
Act as the “point person,” to coordinate and influence all Association business data programs and initiatives related to reporting business data.
Coordinate the efforts of business data stakeholders and collaborate within IT to develop a data infrastructure conducive to providing easily accessible, interactive, automated, and accurate data to business, program, and research units.
Establish relationships and alliances within the Association to ensure effective cross-functional business and IT partnerships, decision-making and data outcomes.
Lead data governance working group to develop data driven policies and procedures and ensure alignment.
Participate in IT Governance Committee (ITGC) to ensure organizational efficiency and effectiveness in Association data and IT management.
Lead technology, infrastructure and/or special projects as needed. Including data integration initiatives, capability building initiatives like SSRS/SSAS reporting tool build out, and/or data driven efforts.?
Manage two DBAs: one focused on backend Data Lake management and tools and the other on reporting tools.
Data Process and Standards Development
Ensure clear accountability is in place for stewardship of the company’s principal information assets.
Guide practices for capturing, storing, and handling all organization-wide data: identify when and how data can be used to support decision-making within the organization and ensure processes are in place to enable data-based decision-making.
Design an overall quality control program for data management and quality assurance. Develop procedures and protocol for proper data integration and accuracy.
Establish operating-level agreements between IT and data stakeholders to ensure timely and predictable data access.
Reporting Infrastructure Development
Design and lead the development of the Association’s business data reporting platform (Qlik) to enhance data-informed decisions
Develop SSRS and SSAS reporting tools and capabilities to build out long term business reports more efficiently
Identify new sources of enriched data outside of the Association that would improve the overall strategy and business objectives, including demographic information to be used for customer segmentation and personalization
Serve as steward for all EDUCAUSE data assets
Improve interactive self-service reports and dashboards that give end-users business insights and enable users to analyze communicate, monitor, and plan for the future
Work with external consultants and vendors as needed
Facilitate staff training on reporting platform as needed
Metrics and KPI Development and Analysis
Collaborate with Association leaders to identify key performance indicators as well as overall organization metrics
Utilize data mining and synthesize findings into enhanced decision-support tools
Proposed recommendations with industry standards and best practices that affect the overall sustainability and effective operations of the organization
Develop technical specifications for new KPI build out as input to development
As possible, develop new KPIs
Manage issue resolution with current KPIs if there are any potential data visualization or data quality issues
Support other associated projects or initiatives
Education and Experience
You will need a degree in data science, statistics, operations research or related field(s) of study. An advanced degree is desirable; a strong combination of education and practical experience will also be considered.
You should have a minimum of three years of professional experience in a data-oriented role and environment.
You have a history of successful program management.

A solid grasp of data management as well as a familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Microsoft SQL Server Suite
Working knowledge of cloud technologies (Azure, AWS)
Knowledge of industry trends including data mining, visualization and predictive modeling
Development experience with a strong emphasis on data infrastructure, including data warehousing, managing a data lake, and knowledgeable on SDLC methodologies
Proficient in industry standard database, data management tools, and data warehouse methodologies such as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Management Services
Working knowledge of BI tools such as IBM Cognos, SAP Business Objects, Power BI or similar
Working knowledge of Analytic tools such as Qlik, Tableau, SAP Dashboards, or similar
Experience developing Qlik Dashboards is a plus
Experience with BI development best practices such as agile methodologies, source code control, issue tracking, prototyping, and testing.
Experience documenting technical requirements as well as technical documentation for the groups in the Association
Experience conducting training to internal customers as well as company-wide

Limited travel required to support EDUCAUSE conferences/events, team operations, and external events meaningful to the position.
