Job Code: 4453 Grade: J About Stanford Real Estate Who We Are Stanford Real Estate (SRE) is a department within Land, Buildings and Real Estate (LBRE), governed by the Stanford Management Company Board of Directors and Stanford Board of Trustees. SRE plays an important role in supporting the University's teaching, learning, and research missions by providing financial support for Stanford University. The SRE Department is led by the Associate Vice President of Real Estate and includes over thirty professionals in the areas of Asset Management, Real Estate Development, Gift Real Estate, Residential Housing Planning and Acquisitions, and Real Estate Finance & Administration.
What We Do The Real Estate department of Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) manages and oversees the non-academic properties on Stanford lands, valued in excess of $5 billion , which make up 3,900 acres of the overall 8,180 acres of land holdings. SRE performs asset and property management, leasing, sales and acquisition, and development services for these lands on behalf of the University. The areas under management comprise a wide variety of property types, including hotels, medical and commercial office buildings, apartments, retail buildings, residential properties, and agricultural lands. SRE also provides general real estate services to support various university initiatives such as acquiring and developing off-campus properties for faculty and staff housing and various academic uses.
About Finance & Administration The Real Estate Finance & Administration team is responsible for implementing and maintaining the financial analytics and operating procedures designed to ensure the highest profitability and stewardship of the University's real estate lands. The team oversees the business processes and strategic planning that govern accurate and transparent financial analyses and reports for the Board and senior university leadership, enable productive management and strategic planning for the real estate assets, and improve effectiveness of our internal operating processes. About the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager (FP&A Manager) This role will lead and be accountable for providing financial and portfolio analyses to the Stanford Management Company Board of Directors, the Stanford Board of Trustees, as necessary, senior university management, and the Stanford Real Estate leadership team. This individual will provide financial consulting and strategic support to senior SRE management, including preparation of board presentations, capital expenditure analyses, industry/peer group comparisons, and other projects as requested by senior management. The role is a perfect combination of leading and doing, as described below.
Core job responsibilities: The FP&A Manager is responsible for high quality interactions and clear and consistent data-driven communications with the real estate leadership team, including the lead asset managers and development team overseeing the Stanford University real estate portfolio. The two primary job functions of the position include:
Strategic Development of Business Intelligence Solutions:
Lead the effort to identify, develop, monitor and report key quantitative and qualitative analytics in support of SRE's strategic planning and reporting to the Board.
Provide high-level functional and technical expertise in ongoing development of business intelligence solutions and processes supporting SRE financial and performance information delivery and reporting.
Assist with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and policies in support of all data analytics and reports. Identify opportunities to improve manual and automated systems to realize process efficiencies in finance and/or all other functional areas.
Execute value-added analysis and provide decision support for special projects and initiatives.
Identify roles and responsibilities of colleagues, as appropriate, as they relate to business
Conduct High-Quality, Informative Analytics for SRE team:
On an on-going basis, this individual is responsible for financial, performance and portfolio risk assessments, and driving key insights and analytics related to portfolio profitability, short-term and long-term investment and financial planning.
Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accuracy in financial reporting of budgeted, actual and forecasted results, including detailed analyses and specific explanations supporting related variances.
Assist with preparation of SRE financial forecasts and monthly performance reports, including driving standardization, simplification, and automation of all reporting.
Define new metrics and build dashboards to provide better visibility into portfolio performance and improve forecast accuracy.
Manage use, implementation and development of online analytical reporting tools and design efficient reports and database.
The Finance Manager will be an experienced financial leader who works well in a collaborative environment.
6+ years of finance /strategic business experience, with a proven track record driving financial planning & analysis
Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, Master's/MBA desired, with emphasis in finance, accounting, economics, or other related field.
The successful candidate will have a passion for leading change, possess a positive attitude, and be hard-working and driven, with a focus on results and accountability.
Ability to see the big picture, but possess strong analytical capability and technical modeling skills.
Experience developing and presenting strategic/financial analyses to senior leadership. Knowledge and experience performing financial modeling and analytics for executive review.
Proven results in business operational improvement.
Ability to provide guidance, counsel, and information to employees throughout SRE in specific areas of financial results and forecasts.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proven results providing business partnering and financial analyses to client departments within an organization.
Excellent software skills with Microsoft Office applications
Excel skills must be advanced with ability to manage large amounts of data.
Location: Palo Alto, CA through June 2019, at which time SRE will move to new Redwood City Campus. Beginning in July 2019, Redwood City, CA.
