This position will assist the College of Natural Science Dean's Office and units within the College; designs and conducts studies of University operations in such areas as research activities, finance, personnel, student programs, courses, and enrollment; conducts all aspects of data search and analysis; develops a variety of financial, research, and managerial reports by performing complex statistical analysis and accessing multiple data sources; collects historical and current data in order to assist the deans in decision making; conducts analytical and non-routine studies as needed by upper management; serves as college security administrator; maintains currency in the Data Management field through continuous learning and represents the college in data users groups.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experiences in reporting using relational databases, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with relational database design, and production of reports derived from data in relational databases. Experience using Access, Oracle or other relational database systems. Experience writing SQL queries, or using SQL-based integrated business intelligence suites such as Query Studio.
Work experience with and an understanding of University operations, finance and HR procedures; ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet deadlines; ability to work on several projects simultaneously; ability to problem solve. Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong organizational, collaborative and interpersonal skills in a team environment. Knowledge and current use of Query Studio, MSU’s enterprise data warehouse and MSUData SIS databases. Experience using Excel to aid in reporting.
