This position is responsible for maintaining a high level of availability for all Student Unions & Activities systems as well as additional systems owned by the units within the Office for Student Affairs. The System Administrator will help transform SUA’s current Technology Portfolio based on future needs with the goal of delivering an optimal level of service and supporting the unit’s mission. The System Administrator reports to the Assistant to the Director and is the primary staff member of SUA’s IT office which serves all outlets operated by SUA. We are a 24/7 organization creating an “on call” component to this position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: System Architecture, Implementation & Administration (40%) Application Management Systems and Data Integrations System Architecture utilizing existing University offered IT services Implementation, maintenance and support of business critical technologies, including our highly available point-of-sale, event management systems and websites Implementation and testing of systems to ensure accessibility, security, stability, and functionality Define needs and requirements of business processes which require technical solutions Provide expert technical advice to all areas within SUA Improve existing process through implementation of new, or change of existing technologies Analyze IT architecture and recommend and implement improvements Manage and support public facing technologies
Security (20%) Understand foundational data security principles Track security vulnerabilities and ensure applications are patched up to date Access and account management Threat mitigation
Merchant Account Management (15%) Schedule and facilitate annual PCI systems penetration testing Complete all SAQs and required PCI compliance documentation Accountable for Payment Card Industry Security Standard compliance
IT Service Management (10%) Incident management of SUA technology issues escalated from Tier1 support Knowledge management of SUA specific procedures and solutions Change management of SUA owned technologies
Data Management (10%) Database design & development Maintain and support databases, some of which contain secure/private data Coordinate with the Office of Information Technology for maintenance and implementation of data backups, data archiving, and disaster recovery plans
Administrative (5%) Vendor Management Technology Portfolio Management Work with the IT@UMN community to best leverage existing IT services Consult with IT BRMs prior to the procurement, adoption, or implementation of new technologies Continually learn to enhance expertise in emerging technologies
Required Qualifications: Four years of work experience in the areas of system administration with a related bachelor’s degree. Six years of work experience in the areas of system administration with unrelated bachelor's degree. Experience must include managing server applications in Microsoft Windows and Linux server environments, including installation and configuration of software packages and application stacks, managing backup and restore, securing systems, data and networks, and automation of the environments. Candidate must demonstrate strength in communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to work independently on complex projects within a diverse team supporting varying business needs.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience installing, configuring and supporting Microsoft server applications, such as MSSQL and IIS. Experience with Linux LAMP stack environments, nginx web servers, and Oracle SQL client connections. Experience with Linux automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet. Experience with one or more scripting languages such Bash, Perl, Python, or Powershell. Experience with firewalls and security vulnerability scanners. Experience with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow within a distributed yet highly integrated IT organization. Experience with data retention, backup best practices and disaster recovery planning. Experience with NCR CounterPoint SQL or other retail environments with point-of-sale hardware. Experience with PCIDSS, documentation and vulnerability mitigation processes. Experience with business intelligence technologies such as Traf-sys. Experience with facility management solutions such as EMS Enterprise and Vanderbilt SMS. Experience with Qubica Conqueror. Experience with Kronos Workforce Timekeeper.
