The School of Information is seeking a creative and detail oriented business intelligence analyst to provide operational and strategic data support for the School.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the BI Analyst will be responsible for coordinating data management across the school. This includes database design and support, data extraction from enterprise systems, and integration of data across multiple functional areas of the school. Key components of this position include the development of management reports and key performance indicators in order to help support decision making.

Alongside the Director of Finance and key stakeholders within the Computing and Finance units, collaborate to identify opportunities, using reporting and analytics to guide strategy that align with the School’s strategic plan.
Assist with research of and develop technical solutions to business problems, track work, and measure outcomes.
Develop a comprehensive, cross-functional understanding of business processes, production systems, enterprise-wide data warehouses/sources, and school/unit databases. Collaborate with UMSI Business Process Consultant to recommend data-driven solutions to identified process issues.
Design, update, and maintain key operational database systems, in partnership with UMSI Computing.
Conduct business analyses and functional design activities for capturing, loading, storing, and extracting data across the organization.
Design, model, and build data structures, and data mapping routines to support the data and reporting requirements for all areas of the organization.
Manage reporting and/or dashboard projects from inception to completion and follow up with report users. Maintain reports and make adaptations in response to changing operations and strategies.
Work collaboratively with Directors in UMSI units to conduct strategic assessments to identify current/emerging business issues/problems and contribute to defining high impact business intelligence solutions with a focus on the quantitative methods, modeling, and analytical techniques.
Utilize systems and reporting tools to explore data, validate reports, and supply data and required reporting. Develop acumen to independently identify which tool works best to supply information depending on the user and the intended audience.
Create integrated schedule of push reports for multiple units within the School of Information. Modify and update as unit needs change.
Develop documentation of methodologies and help pages for users of unit databases.
Coordinate, prepare, and submit institutional benchmarking surveys that are used in various research associations, and for the school’s accreditation applications as such. Source information for the reports from the appropriate unit.
Develop in-depth understanding of unit business processes by building relationships with unit administrative staff.
Participate in cross-functional teams for increasing the impact/awareness of BI projects, tools, and assist in the presentation/demonstrations of tools and BI solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business computing an/or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar analytics role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, prioritization, and problem solving.
Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow, and meet operational deadlines in a complex organization.
Demonstrated experience researching and developing queries to extract data. Demonstrated experience using data management software, including SQL or mySQL.
Considerable experience with PC based spreadsheet and modeling software, including Microsoft Excel,Word, PowerPoint, and a statistical package.
Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, and experience presenting complex analyses in terms easily understandable by non-experts.
Ability to visualize and articulate the interrelationships of various types of data, from a variety of sources.
Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
Ability to work in open, collaborative space and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to effectively manage change and uncertainty
Advanced degree in a related field.
In-depth knowledge of one or more M-Pathways data universes (Student, Financial, HR, Donor, Alumni, Space, CRAS, O3WC).
Experience with data visualization techniques using various software programs and other mechanisms.
Tableau Visualization/Analytics experience.
Experience with business process re-engineering and change management.
Business Objects design and reporting support.
Demonstrated understanding of analytics and how to leverage data.
Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
