Data, Reporting & Analytics
The HITS Data, Reporting & Analytics (DRA) division collaborates with partners throughout Michigan Medicine, the U-M, and the state of Michigan, to create data resources which can be used across the enterprises. Their work enables enterprise analytics which supports strategic, data-driven decisions by leaders, researchers, clinicians, educators, and administrators. DRA provides services across the clinical, education, research, and administrative mission domains and is organized around the following core capabilities: Data Foundations, Analytics, Health Information Exchange, and Enterprise Data Solutions.
The DataWorks team is a group in the Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) organization at Michigan Medicine. DataWorks connects Michigan Medicine data seekers with the tools, training, and expertise necessary to enable insights and discoveries across Michigan Medicine. The group serves as the “front-door” to the Data, Reporting, and Analytics division of HITS. Our goal is to provide enterprise customers with foundational services, products, and expertise to foster data-driven insights and promote the educational, clinical, and research missions at Michigan Medicine.
Coordinate and Perform Analysis:
Work with a growing customer base and technical personnel to define scope and requirements for documentation and training deliverables.
Translate complex business intelligence, informatics, master data management, meta data management, data concierge, data governance, and data warehousing concepts into concise language for ease of user understanding.
Function as an interface between DataWorks user community and appropriate development teams
Analyze current trends and technical challenges of the current programs and its users/customers to provide effective knowledge comprehension and training
Evaluate processes and procedures in order to design and produce appropriate user documentation and training
Perform comparisons between possible documentation and training opportunities and make recommendations based on data gathered
Analyze information and evaluate results to recommend best solutions for problem solving
Contribute to strategic planning efforts with regard to user information and training needs
Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assignments
Coordinate and Perform End User Documentation and Training Development:
Research, plan, design, write, edit, verify, produce, archive, and maintain DataWorks internal and external user documentation and training materials, including technical support materials.
Edit documentation and training materials for format, grammar, and consistency
Consolidate technical information for consensus and analysis.
Assist in development and maintenance of websites and any additional DataWorks deliverables, including: diagrams, presentations, formal and informal training sessions.
Research tools, technologies, and best practice methods for delivering technical information to end users.
Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and users via telephone, written documentation, e-learning, websites, in person, or via other core communication tools
Provide advice regarding user documentation, training, and reference material to management or other groups, as needed
Present information to department user community through meetings, presentations, and written formats
Support management through the development of products to assist in communicating information to internal and external audiences
Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with internal and external groups, and maintain them over time
Respond to user requests
Senior Position Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in technical communication, information sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Applicants MUST have 5+ years of experience in healthcare data or technical writing
Excellent communication (both written and verbal), collaboration, and coordination skills are required for an effective relationship with multiple teams, subject matter experts (SMEs), and customers.
Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment is required.
Experience in working with management, team members, and colleagues from other departments and projects.
Ability to facilitate the investigation and resolution of project issues in a self-directed and timely manner.
Extensive experience with medium-sized development teams, data development processes, deployment, procedures and documentation, training, and information delivery.
HIPAA and previous healthcare experience preferred.
Demonstrated solid and effective written, interpersonal, and verbal skills.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Excellent analytic and problem-solving ability.
Ability to work effectively on a team.
Willingness and strong aptitude to learn new technologies and assume increasing responsibilities.
Ability to work in a dynamic development environment and adjust to changing priorities, processes, and project plans.
Intermediate Position Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in technical communication, information sciences, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Applicants must have 2-3 years of relevant experience
Applicants MUST have experience in the healthcare data industry, technical communication or information sciences fields.
Applicants MUST have experience working with data and analyzing healthcare data.
Healthcare/Research industry experience
Experience in requirements gathering and data analysis.
Experience resolving complex data management issues involving multiple technologies and business areas.
HIPAA and previous healthcare experience preferred.
