The Northeastern University College of Engineering Multidisciplinary Graduate Engineering group offers 6 different Master of Science degrees in engineering fields that are interdisciplinary, draw on industry experience, and are professionally relevant. The enrollments in these programs are growing rapidly with the number of new students joining Northeastern each fall more than tripling over the last 5 years. To support the teaching and advising involved with these programs and their continued growth, the Northeastern University College of Engineering seeks to fill a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position to create a community of students in the M.S. in Information systems program at the Boston, Massachusetts campus.
MS in Information Systems focuses on the intersection of cutting-edge technology and business complexity with an emphasis on the art and science of designing intricate software applications especially in the areas of healthcare, security and privacy, auditing and compliance, business improvement and intelligence, as well as financial accountability.
The MSIS program offers key courses in the following areas: Application Engineering and Development, Web-methods and Tools, Smartphone/Mobile Web Development, Engineering Big-Data Systems, Data Sciences, Optimizing Map-Reduce Platforms, Big-data Architecture and Governance, Network Structure and Cloud Computing, Big-Data System Engineering using Scala, Advanced User Experience Design and Testing, Big-Data Systems and Intelligence Analytics, Foundations of Parallel, Concurrent, and Multithreaded Programming, and Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Engineering.
MSIS students take managerial classes to strengthen their organizational and communication skills as well as their real-world knowledge. These courses include Business Analysis, Agile Development, Quality Assurance and Automation, Healthcare Service Delivery, Business Process Engineering, Drug Development Processes and Information Systems Compliance, Organizational Change and IT, IT Auditing, Enterprise Architecture, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Engineering, as well as Financial Accounting Systems.
The main responsibilities for this teaching faculty position includes high-quality teaching, student advising, and service at the college and university levels. The position also requires scholarship, in particular related to pedagogical or industry inspired research/evaluation. For this position, service relates to identifying opportunities for program growth including partnerships with industry, faculty research programs within the college, development of new degree or certificate programs, new course development, and involvement across the various Northeastern Professional Advancement Network. National and International professional service activities are possible at the discretion of the faculty member and the College.
This position will report directly to the Senior Program Director of the Information Systems program and collaborate across the department. Teaching assignments will focus on courses specific to the focus of the MSIS Program in Boston with a typical teaching load of 6 courses for the academic year.
The Assistant Teaching Professor will develop course content, prepare academic activities to support course objectives, and other course delivery material; advise students; work collaboratively to identify and hire part-time instructors, and perform service to the department, university, and profession.
Earned doctoral degree in engineering, computer science, or related field is required by the start date
Applicants with related industrial experience and professional credentials are highly desirable
Experience teaching graduate-level engineering courses is highly desirable
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
Commitment to teaching excellence
Ability to communicate and interact with students in on-ground or online courses, and colleagues across multiple campuses
