Job Description Summary
Responsible for processing report requests from inception to completion in support of the student reporting needs of the University. As a member of the reporting team, gathers report requirements, performs data analysis, creates and tests reports, as well as, maintains reports and provides users support on behalf of the University Registrar's Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below.
Develops a command of the existing student data structure, business logic, and reporting structure.
Creates, enhances, and performance tunes standard Cognos reports.
Maintains existing reports and creates ad-hoc reports to meet day-to-day business needs.
Assists with providing training and support to the campus student reporting community.
Partners with users to perform user acceptance testing.
Assists with the creation of report documentation including but not limited to requirements documents and functional and technical report specifications.
Provides day-to-day user support for student related report and data issues.
Assists in analyzing and developing solutions to deliver student and course related data through web-based portals.
Provides support in enrollment reporting to the National Student Clearinghouse.
Performs other related functions and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS and COMPETENCIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions.
Bachelor's degree with 2 - 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Report writing experience in Cognos 8 or above using Query Studio, Report Studio, and/or Analysis Studio is preferred.
Experience with other Business Intelligence tools (OBIEE, Business Objects Micro Strategy ...) will be considered.
Strong analytical skills are required.
Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
Knowledge of Ellucian Banner Student module, or similar ERP applications in higher education.
Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and its application to student data.
Ability to take direction, work independently and work with others as part of a team in a changing environment.
Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and prioritize workload.
Knowledge of superior customer service standards and practices.
Strong communication skills.
