This position is responsible for the creation of online interactive course content and administering server systems and technical processes foundational to the production of online course materials. Primary duties include development and maintenance of campus video delivery platform, as well as development of both internal workflow tools and customer-facing web interfaces supporting production and delivery of high-quality course materials with minimal turnaround. Follow trends and upcoming development in the field of online content delivery. Evaluate new/emerging technologies for potential inclusion in future courseware. Remain current and informed on emerging technologies to advise the Manager of Distance Learning and Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field and two years experience OR Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field and five years experience.
Maintaining Macintosh and Linux client and server systems.
Experience administering Apache httpd and/or nginx web servers.
Strong understanding of h.264/MPEG-4 AVC, WebM/VP8/VP9, Apple HLS, Adobe HDS, HTTP pseudo-streaming, and other relevant web media delivery technologies.
Proficiency with Adobe Media Encoder, ffmpeg, x264, Sorenson Squeeze, or other video encoding software.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite applications.
Previous experience supporting Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, or other non-linear editing software.
Previous experience administering Wowza Media Server.
Previous experience with Desire2Learn Learning Environment / BrightSpace.
Experience creating, editing and producing video and other multimedia assets.
Essential Functions and percent of time::
50%Develop custom software and hardware solutions for use in production of online courses, including lecture capture, content delivery platform, data analytics/business intelligence architecture, and in-house workflow tools and middleware. Develop interactive learning solutions and web-based interactive assessment content. Format content and implement infrastructure to enable progressive-download and streaming audio/video delivery on multiple platforms including Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, and Android.
15% Develop and maintain in-house video delivery platform for use by faculty, students, and Distance Learning production staff. Ensure seamless integration of the platform into university learning management system using BLTI and/or vendor-specific APIs. Ensure academic and information system integrity by means of capability-based and session-based access controls.
10%Administer and maintain UNIX/Linux-based server infrastructure for a web-based campus video delivery platform. Provide a secure, reliable, and optimized environment for WSU distance learning course/program content. Servers may be either physical machines, or virtual machines provided through on-campus VM cluster or public IaaS 'cloud' providers.
10%Provide technical recommendations on the procurement of appropriate resources to enhance distance education courses/programs with the goal of scalability, growth of distance learning institutionally, and to expand the scope of the model.
5% Maintain skills and knowledge of current and emerging technologies to provide infrastructure support for distance education and multimedia production.
5%Provide analytical data on distance learning course content usage and user interaction.
5%Other duties as assigned.
