The Associate Director, Data & Analytics is responsible for taking a leading role in the Office of Advancement's Advancement Services and Data Analytics function. This team has purview over data, reporting, and analytics that provide the Office of Advancement with the ability to measure performance, make data-driven business decisions, and provide accurate forecasting in support of the quiet and public phases of the University's capital campaign and ambition to raise $500 million annually by 2026. The Associate Director will be responsible for providing thought leadership on the Analytics team in developing novel approaches to solving business problems, developing processes and standard reports to answer common questions, and staying up to date with the latest trends in business intelligence and analytics.
The Associate Director is the senior-most staff member focused specifically on analytics and will report to the Assistant Vice President (AVP), Advancement Services, who maintains general oversight for the data analytics function The Associate Director, in coordination with the AVP, will have primary responsibility for liaising with internal clients, and take a leading role in project management for the team. The Associate Director will also partner with the Records and Reporting Services team to better integrate reporting and business intelligence across Advancement Services.
The Associate Director, Data & Analytics will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
Assists the Director in identifying and evaluating new technological solutions that may help increase the efficiency of existing processes or strengthen the Office of Advancement's abilities to derive insights from data.
Serves as a key connection point with the Records and Reporting Services teams within the Office of Advancement - works to gather business requirements from end users and implement those in partnership with the GU360 core team in the Salesforce CRM.
Remains current with Higher education and private sector best practices related to business analytics, performance dashboards and KPIs, campaign feasibility analysis, etc.
Plays a key role with the AVP in ensuring that the team is trained and constantly challenged to develop professionally by infusing best practice and new technology skills and capabilities into the work of the larger Prospect Development team.
Serves as an in-house expert on external modeling and wealth screening services as they are applied at Georgetown, and works with the AVP and Director of Prospect Research to ensure that Georgetown continually receives the maximum value from these services.
Project Management and Client Leadership
Serves as the day-to-day project manager for all Analytics projects, under the general supervision of the Director.
Responsible for working with the AVP to maintain a project intake template, key performance indicators, and tracking system - and then serving as day-to-day executor on project management principles.
Supports the AVP in working with internal clients to define project objectives, set up timelines, implement measurable goals, and manage delivery of final project materials to clients.
Serves as a resource for internal client questions on an ongoing basis.
Collaborates the AVP, other members of the Campaign Management team, and Senior Advancement leadership to maintain, update, and refresh existing and new performance management dashboards, key performance indicators, and other standard reports.
Collaborates with the two other core team functionalities of prospect research and prospect management to reorganize legacy business processes in a way that is reportable and in line with the Office of Advancement strategic objectives.
Takes a leading role in helping inculcate a strengthened culture of data-driven decision making at all levels of the organization, in preparation for Georgetown's next campaign.
Works with the Strategic Initiatives team to develop competitive intelligence reporting.
Collaborates with the Reporting Services team to align and integrate efforts across teams.
Analytics Projects Technical Contributor
Provides technical leadership on Georgetown data and systems for analytics team projects, including defining data sources, definitions, cleaning data, etc.
Builds out new areas of work to understand complex technical problems faced by internal clients.
Leverages expertise to contribute to the completion of analytics projects, while delegating work to continually "practice at the top of their license".
Develops a thorough understanding of all relevant database systems, data flows, structure, content, and ways to improve upon current processes.
Works with the Director to ensure that the overall work of the team is consistently accurate, executed to a high degree of professionalism, but also produced efficiently.
As the senior analytics staff member, responds to time-dependent and urgent requests from management and senior leadership.
Develops an understanding of what questions or problems posed by clients are most relevant to the overarching strategic objectives of the Office of Advancement, as well as which are most effectively answered using internal resources as opposed to outside services or experts.
Bachelor's Degree in statistics/mathematics or equivalent field of study
At least 3 to 5 years of experience analyzing data in the setting of complex fundraising and/or sales organizations
Completion of advanced-level coursework or the equivalent in mathematics, statistics, data science or operations and a basic theoretical and applied understanding of principals of applied statistics
Proficiency using at least one statistical software package, such as Stata, SPSS, Minitab, SAS/JMP. Preferably experience with forecasting and modeling. Expert Microsoft Excel and/or Access skills
Programming skills leveraging SQL, APEX, Python or similar languages. Knowledge of Salesforce development or administrator certifications a plus
Knowledge of Advancement database/CRM systems, preferably Salesforce/Affinaquest
General knowledge and understanding of data architecture
Direct experience in project management
Highly organized, able to work independently, and able to work under pressure to coordinate multiple requests and competing deadlines
Excellent writing and editing skills; excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to adapt and present information in a variety of formats
Advanced understanding of analytical problem solving methodologies
Desire to evolve knowledge and skills along with rapidly advancing trends in the field of data science
Demonstrated advanced-level understanding of the analytics domain of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA)
