The Electronic Research Administration Data Analyst is part of the Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) team at Vanderbilt University and is part of the Electronic Research Administration Support Team. Under the supervision of the Senior Research Projects Manager, the Electronic Research Administration Data Analyst works with other members of the Electronic Research Administration Support Team to maintain and support the university's electronic research administration systems, including assisting end-users, data analysis and reporting, and evaluating and testing back-end changes to the electronic research administration systems.
Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) supports and advocates the University's mission through leadership and expertise ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. SPA serves as a central resource providing guidance and stewardship by supporting the entire research community. SPA processes proposals and negotiates grants, contracts and other agreements. SPA values and promotes integrity, innovation, knowledge, collaboration and effectiveness.
The Electronic Research Administration Support Team within SPA engages with and supports all internal SPA teams as well as faculty and sponsored programs administrators in the colleges, departments, schools, and centers across Vanderbilt University to further the university's research mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Senior Research Projects Manager and in collaboration with other members of the Electronic Research Administration Support Team, the Electronic Research Administration Data Analyst will:
Maintain and support the university's electronic research administration systems. The current systems in use are Coeus and PEER, but in spring 2020 we will implement a new single electronic research administration system to be determined.
Respond to help tickets and troubleshoot end-user issues
Analyze and report on proposal, award, contract, and subaward data housed in the electronic research administration systems, including the creation of new reports in Oracle Business Intelligence for end-users
Evaluate and test back-end changes to the electronic research administration systems
Assist with the training of end-users on the electronic research administration systems
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
A Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 2+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education, professional training, and experience is necessary.
Experience related to analyzing and maintaining data in an enterprise system or data warehouse database is necessary.
Experience with relational databases, Oracle/MySQL, SQL, and/or BI tools is necessary.
Demonstrated ability to listen to and communicate with differing stakeholders is necessary.
Demonstrated understanding of transactional systems, business processes, data access and security issues, and reporting and BI environments is necessary.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills is necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to understand and translate complex requirements is necessary.
Extensive experience working directly with end users, administrative unit heads and other data custodians is necessary.
Customer-focused and dedicated to providing optimum service is necessary.
Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a team environment, both within a project and in developing relationships and collaborations with other teams within SPA and end-users across Vanderbilt University is necessary.
Experience in university research administration working with research administration support staff, particularly in application systems development in a major research university setting, is strongly preferred.
Experience with sponsored projects workflows is strongly preferred.
Experience working with Coeus software or other research administration software is strongly preferred.
Experience supporting new research administration system solution implementation is strongly preferred.
Experience integrating enterprise middleware with existing applications is preferred.
Knowledge and experience with enterprise workflow solutions is preferred.
