Ranked as the top public school of public health in the United States, the Gillings School awards doctoral, master's and undergraduate degrees and certificates to students who take courses on campus, online and at a distance from Chapel Hill. Within a year of graduation, more than 90 percent of graduates continue their education or accept employment in positions related to public health. Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), our innovative curriculum includes an interdisciplinary MPH program first launched in Fall 2018 delivered in three formats – residential, online, and distance in Asheville, NC. In all three formats, the foundation of the MPH curriculum is the integrated, 2-semester 12-credit MPH Core with innovative concentrations in focus areas critical to public health practitioners (https://sph.unc.edu/resource-pages/master-of-public-health/). In addition, we offer the BSPH degree in 4 areas (Nutrition, Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management and Environmental Sciences & Engineering), other Master's degrees, a DrPH, and excellent PhD degrees in all seven traditional Departments.
This position is a key leadership role within the Academic Affairs unit and reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs. It is a full time, fixed-term faculty position with an emphasis on teaching excellence and administrative responsibilities to drive excellence in the Gillings curriculum and strive for continuous quality improvement and innovation.
Teaching or co-teaching up to three courses annually in one of our degree programs: MPH Core (Fall SPHG courses: 711, 712, 713 or Spring SPHG 721, 722); BSPH Core (SPHG 351, 352) or Foundational Learning Objective (FLO) (SPHG 600) for graduate students not in the MPH degree program.
Schoolwide leadership in implementation, growth, evaluation and continuous improvement for all degree programs, with a likely emphasis in our growing MPH degree.
Leadership of key academic governance groups such as the MPH Steering Committee
Participation in School and campus stakeholder groups and committees pertaining to academic matters. Key stakeholder groups include Concentration Leads, Department Chairs, and Dean's Council, as well as external organizations such as the Associate of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH).
Close collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs on aspects of academic strategy and policy.
Oversight of specific aspects of academic operations to drive and align policies and practices that ensure student success, academic excellence and alignment with campus and School accreditation requirements (SACS and CEPH). This individual will work closely with central School unit staff, including personnel from Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Strategic Analysis and Business Intelligence, Dean's Office, Communications, and Information Technology.
