UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the academic division of the university dedicated to workforce and career development. CPE helps professional working adults upskill, reskill and advance their careers. CPE partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis, and also works with employers and local experts to develop programs targeted to regional needs for economic development. More than 1,500 professionals teach annually in a wide array of specialized practice domains, including UC Davis faculty. Last year, CPE recorded nearly 75,000 enrollments in more than 4,200 classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. By enrollment, CPE is the largest academic division on the campus. CPE is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, contracts and grants, and rate-based activity. Revenues must be earned each year in a highly competitive and dynamic market context. The divisional budget consists of more than XX programmatic profit and loss centers that roll to larger academic departments and the Division.
Job Summary
Under general oversight of the Assistant Dean, Business and Operations, the Financial Services Director oversees all financial and accounting services for the division's 200 FTE and $40+ million budget. Within a highly complex and risk-based financial context, manages financial planning, budgeting and reporting, accounting, purchasing, payroll, contracts and grants, and risk management. Serves as divisional comptroller. Performs complex financial analyses, oversees the financial analytics team, and serves as financial subject matter expert on cross-divisional business intelligence team to advise academic and operational partners in optimizing financial performance, managing program investment risks, and developing business models with campus and external partners.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Restricted vacations during fiscal close (June-July) and grant deadlines. UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or business, and/or equivalent experience/training.
Eight or more years of experience in public sector accounting and finance, with significant responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, and financial analytics for a large, complex organization.
Seasoned leader with experience managing a team of financial and accounting professionals in a similarly complex environment and experience setting strategic direction, developing well-reasoned and on-target plans, obtaining buy-in, and motivating a team to successfully complete projects and reach goals.
Experience in financial forecasting and the development and use of sophisticated tools and financial models to monitor funds, assess and manage risk, make projections, and design financial and management reports.
Proven capacity to derive insights from data, present data orally and visually, and make strategic business recommendations.
Working knowledge and experience applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), federal and state regulatory compliance in financial management, accounting, extramural funds and resource planning/risk management.
Interpersonal communication skills to establish cooperative working relationships as well as to disseminate complex information clearly and concisely while maintaining confidentiality and using good judgment and diplomacy.
Computer proficiency in using word-processing, e-mail, web browsing tools and advanced skills in the use of spreadsheet software such as MS Excel.
Preferred:
Graduate degree in accounting, finance, business or economics, and/or equivalent experience/training.
Professional certification in accounting or finance.
Knowledge of financial technologies and systems, and business analysis skills to define user requirements and advise on systems development.
Experience overseeing administration of contracts and grants.
Experience working in a self-supporting or revenue-generating organization.
Knowledge of UC Davis accounting and related policies and procedures.
Experience working in a university-based administrative position, preferably in continuing and professional education.
Experience working in an entrepreneurial organization subject to market risk.
Experience with SQL, Tableau, and technology-based business intelligence solutions.
