Position Summary: The Business Intelligence (BI) Team Lead is a full-time position within Information Technology that is responsible for creating, delivering and maintaining a long-term vision, strategy and technology platform for The New School's BI solutions. This position will partner with key executive, IT and business unit subject matter experts in designing and implementing data models, dashboards and key performance indicators (KPI's) that inform strategy and sound management decision making. The Lead will also provide leadership in designing a technology platform that best supports the University's growing need for robust analytics and data insights through the standardization of the data extract, transfer and load (ETL) process and the development of a data warehouse for both operational and historical reporting. This position will manage a team of BI Analysts and report to the Senior Director of Enterprise Applications & Business Intelligence. Key Responsibilities: ● Serve as a thought leader for the university on the latest quantitative and analytical approaches to gathering and synthesizing data for use in developing insights that drive strategy ● Lead the development of a comprehensive BI architecture that is anchored in standardized ETL processes and well-established data definitions ● Further expand upon the institution's data warehouse with a design that is scalable and can grow with the data and analytical needs of the organization ● Establish a roadmap for BI that outlines key initiatives and associated timelines, both in terms of reporting and infrastructure/platform development ● Maintain awareness of trends in BI products and services and identify opportunities for implementation at The New School ● Prepare and present findings to relevant stakeholders and leadership, including summarizing key discoveries uncovered by translating and analyzing data and identifying trends and anomalies ● Develop data governance and retention policies and processes in collaboration with leadership, the business units and the Office of Institutional Research ● In partnership with the Applications team, develop a data sourcing and API strategy that is efficient and sustainable ● Work with technology team to improve and ensure that new and existing systems provide accurate, timely, and comprehensive data in a flexible, easy to access interface ● Develop new dashboards within existing systems pulling data from multiple sources, communicating data points / KPIs allowing for action to be taken
Minimum Qualifications: ● Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business ● 5 – 7 years of Information Technology Project Management experience ● 3+ years of experience with successful completion of Data Warehouse and BI projects ● 3 – 5 years of experience managing a team of analysts or more senior staff ● Ability to compose metrics/measures in the pursuance of institutional KPI's ● Knowledge of data visualization best practices and techniques ● Strong understanding of how to read and write SQL ● Ability to communicate effectively with developers and end users ● Process analysis and systematic thinking ● Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels ● Ability to prioritize among a large number of requirements ● Quick learner, ability to adapt to new and changing circumstances ● Track record of driving projects to successful outcomes by facilitating the action of others ● Excellent organization and project management skills with attention to detail ● Flexible and positive team player, capable of working successfully with staff at all levels within an organization
Preferred Qualifications: ● Master's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science ● Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), Certified Solutions Expert in BI or equivalent certification ● Higher education data warehousing experience ● Deep understanding of data dimensional models and big data practices in the development of a BI architecture ● Advanced knowledge of SQL
