This position will serve as a senior financial and clinical data analyst for the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
The primary responsibilities of this role will be to provide reporting and analysis on financial and clinical data, as well as building and maintaining reports and dashboards for use by various stakeholders within School of Dentistry. The analyst will provide expertise to Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chair of Developmental and Surgical Sciences, and will support the strategic needs of the organization.
The person in this position will be working with non-data customers and helping them understand data and what they need for their project or reaching their goal. This role requires someone who can build relationships with others throughout the organization.
70% Clinical and Financial Analytics
Use business intelligence software tools including Oracle OBIEE, Tableau, and other University reporting tools in addition to Microsoft Excel to prepare and provide comprehensive financial reports, projections, and analyses for the School of Dentistry and/or the department. Financial reporting will consist of requests from the CFO, Financial Director, and/or Department chair/Division heads and or central constituents. This position will provide leadership in developing creative, innovative new ways to analyze financial and clinical business activity for the School of Dentistry.
30% Reporting/Dashboard Development and Training
Present meaningful and defensible data results including the identification of metrics for successful factors and barriers, improvement opportunities, proposing solutions and informing strategic decisions. Provide support and training resources to non-data users of reports and dashboards.

• BA/BS degree and a minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience or a combination of related education and relevant work experience to equal nine years. • Experience with business intelligence software systems (e.g. Tableau, OBIEE/UM Analytics, Microsoft Power BI, Hyperion BI) • Experience with reporting and developing custom reports and dashboards. • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel • Experience analyzing and reconciling data in multiple systems. • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and willingness to learn. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, and individuals. • Strong organizational and customer service orientation skills.
Preferred Qualifications: • Master’s Degree • Experience data mining and analyzing clinical data in an educational setting. • Ability to build and maintain successful working relationships with senior management • Ability to positively identify and resolve complex problems • Ability to organize and direct multiple projects and interrelated financial activities with major operational or funding impact. • Ability to anticipate business needs, develop and analyze alternatives, and make recommendations to faculty and unit leaders regarding budgets and financial impact. • Strong organizational skills with ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with fixed deadlines and ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed. • Collaborative Skills - develops successful partnerships with faculty, staff, and administrative management in the departments, Dean’s office and other constituents on campus. • Professionalism and Time Management - uses time wisely to accomplish work duties. Displays good organization and prioritization skills. • Oral and written communication - possess excellent communication skills when dealing with faculty, staff, colleagues and external customers.
