Job Description The Financial Business Analyst position is responsible for the financial planning and analysis of University business. This position is responsible for analyzing financial statements and predicting future performance of the University. This may include forecasting future revenues and expenditures, as well as assisting in the budget process. The Financial Analyst position is responsible for assisting in the creation of and in keeping track of the University financial plan. Analyzing the University's performance, alongside changes and market trends, to create forecasts and calculate variances between those forecasts and actuals. This position will track down and explain the causes of these variances.
Job Duties 1. Perform financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking 2. Analyze financial data and create financial models for decision support 3. Modeling of allocation methods to distribute administrative overhead costs to academic departments 4. Report on financial performance and prepare for regular leadership reviews 5. Analyze past results, perform variance analysis, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvements 6. Work closely with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting 7. Evaluate financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts. 8. Guide cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures 9. Provide analysis of trends and forecasts and recommend actions for optimization 10. Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; study proposed changes in methods and materials 11. Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and Excel dashboards 12. Increase productivity by developing automated reporting/forecasting tools 13. Perform market research, data mining, business intelligence, and valuation comps 14. Maintain a strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and models. 15. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is mentioned in virtually any financial analyst job description; familiarity with data query/data management tools is extremely helpful (Access, SQL, Business Objects) 16. Grow financial performance through analysis of financial results, forecasts, variances, and trends 17. Create recommendations to be presented to management and executives 18. Develop financial models to support valuation, planning, and forecasting 19. Assist with the review and approval of purchase requisitions to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures 20. Prepare monthly financial statements and overhead allocations for clinical providers in the Touro Health Center and Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities. 21. Aid in the capital budgeting and expenditure planning processes 22. Reconcile existing transactions through cross-referencing of incoming and outgoing data 23. Conduct comparable analysis and market research to support internal financial analysis 24. Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of financial instruments, market conditions, and trends
Required Qualifications - BA or BS degree required (Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Business /Finance/Economics) - 3+ years of business finance or other relevant experience - Proven work experience in a quantitatively-heavy role
Preferred Qualifications • Experience in higher education preferred • Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Statistics are preferred major fields • FMVA or similar designations preferred • Strong quantitative, analytical and data gathering skills • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills • Good business acumen • High proficiency in financial modeling techniques • Advanced knowledge with Excel formulas and functions • Ability to streamline functions and passion to learn and grow • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills • Comfort dealing with ambiguity and the ability to work independently • Experience working with, and presenting to, senior executives • Excellent communication and presentation skills; be comfortable interacting with executive-level management • Strong financial modeling experience • Ability to work effectively in a team as a team member and team leader when appropriate • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to exercise tact and diplomacy with diverse personalities in a variety of situations • Ability to function independently and effectively in a self-directed environment.
