The role of the Data Analyst is to provide support to The New School’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations team and other areas of the University by analyzing and interpreting demographic and financial data. The Data Analyst will work with both technical and non-technical staff to design, code, implement, and support reporting (scheduled and ad-hoc) using SQL/Tableau. The ideal candidate will have strong data analysis experience with relational databases (preferably Ellucian’s Banner Advancement) and will lead the production of new reports and robust analytic approaches to advance University fundraising efforts. The successful candidate will be a service-oriented leader with the strong communication skills, an eye for details, and a passion for data and problem-solving. The Data Analyst reports to the Team Lead, Reporting and Analysis within the Advancement Services team.
Creates reports and data extracts for development, alumni relations, and other departments throughout the University.
Assists with the implementation of the data warehouse and Tableau in collaboration with the Report and Analysis and the IT Business Intelligence teams.
Develop and prepare highly segmented reports and mailing lists, according to a high-volume, time-sensitive production calendar.
Analyzes and interprets the data to identify issues and recommend appropriate methods to resolve data integrity concerns. May participate in data clean-up projects as necessary.
Works with the Advancement Services team to identify system and process improvements and perform data integrity analysis.
Proactively communicates and collaborates to analyze information needs and requirements to deliver a project that meets stakeholder satisfaction.
Creates and maintains technical and end user documentation as it relates to reporting and analytics. Assists in the training of UDARO colleagues as it relates to reporting and the use of the reporting tools.
Assists with the completion of external surveys (such as VSE and US News and World Report) and benchmarking projects.
Assists department analytics projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Must have basic understanding of relational databases; Banner Advancement experience preferred.
Minimum of 1 years experience writing standard queries and reports; Tableau experience preferred. Proficient competency with SQL, PL/SQL and SQL Server/Oracle databases.
Strong communication skills; Must be able to write, communicate, facilitate, and present clearly to all levels within the University; ability to communicate in both technical and non-technical terms.
Ability to gather requirements, design, develop, maintain, and distribute complex reports for non-technical audiences.
Excellent analysis and problem solving competence, data science or data analytics background preferred .
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to manage and to complete detailed assignments within specified timeframe, and adapt to changing situations and priorities.
Must be comfortable in an environment that places high emphasis on continuous improvement, teamwork, and excellent customer service.
Knowledge and understanding of fundraising in a higher education or large non-profit organization.
Strong Proficiency in MS Office Suite specifically MS Excel.
Highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while having the ability to shift work seamlessly when priorities change.
