Essential Job Duties:
The Director of Data Analytics, DELTA is responsible for managing the analysis and dissemination of institutional data relating to online and distance education (DE) and learning technology for diverse internal and external clients. The Director supports academic departments and colleges throughout the university with enrollment reports, other data, and analyses for planning, development and operation of DE programs and courses.
Within DELTA, the Director provides the Senior Management Team with analysis and business intelligence to support data-informed decision making, and collaborates with colleagues in the direction and oversight of professional staff assigned to data analytics projects. The Director ensures the accuracy and completeness of institutional data reports prepared for State Authorization compliance. The Director also provides leadership for continuous improvement of institutional data analytics processes within DELTA, and contributes to strategic planning and implementation of unit goals.
In collaboration with DELTA colleagues, lead the creation of processes and tools to streamline information gathering and data visualization for internal and external clients, including but not limited to, databases, data dashboards, and other web-based tools.
Oversee the development and production of routine and custom reports for internal and external clients based on data from the NC State Student Information System (SIS), the UNC Student DataMart, and/or other custom data sources as required.
Develop predictive models for academic units (colleges, departments, and DE programs) to assess online course demand and determine online program enrollment trends and projections.
Collaborate with DELTA Marketing & Partnership Development to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of program marketing and student recruitment efforts.
Partner with DELTA Planning & Assessment and DELTA Academic Technology Innovation to provide data analytics and modeling in support of research into factors and interventions impacting student academic success.
Support the AOE Business office with enrollment projections and predictive modeling of tuition, fees, retention rates, and state appropriations to create revenue projections and determine funding allocation to colleges.
Perform other related duties as assigned
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Must be able to perform high-level data reporting and analysis independently and autonomously.
Ability to multi-task in rapidly changing technological and team-oriented environment and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
High level of independence and initiative.
High level of proficiency in creating and interpreting Excel and Google Spreadsheets (or similar software), including data analysis and presentation.
Proficiency in SQL or other database query language(s).
Proficiency in written and verbal communications in a variety of settings.
Proficiency with computer technologies, software, and applications.
Ability to clearly communicate business needs effectively to programmers and/or other technical support staff
Experience using report generation and analytic tools such as SAS, Cognos, SPSS Modeler, R, Python for data science (Pandas +sci-kit learn), Hadoop, Spark or Pentaho Weka.
Experience with PeopleSoft-based student information systems.
Data visualization (e.g. SAS Visual Studio, Tableau).
