The Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) division at Miami University (Ohio) seeks a thoughtful, creative, and experienced professional to lead its applied research and analysis efforts, informing recruitment, admission, yield, scholarship, and retention strategies. This position reports to the Interim Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success and works closely with the Director of Admission, the Director of Student Financial Assistance, the Director of Enrollment Operations, University Registrar, Bursar, Assistant Vice President of the Center for Career Exploration and Success, and the Senior Director for the Office of Student Success. The position regularly interacts and works closely with institutional research, business and finance function, Student Life, and the academic divisions. Primary areas of responsibilities include overseeing the predictive modeling, enrollment reporting, enrollment research strategy, trends and analysis of data student retention, persistence, graduation, and career success. This position will have routine interactions with the senior leadership at Miami University, including the offices of the President, the Provost, the office of the Senior Vice President for Business and Finance, the Vice President for Student Life, among others. The work produced at this level is often incorporated into reports for the Miami University Board of Trustees, the State of Ohio, and a variety of other key stakeholders.
In particular, the job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serve as a member of the Enrollment Management and Student Success Leadership Team responsible for the strategic direction and goal-setting for EMSS.
Responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and providing consulting for recruitment and student data projects. This includes trend analysis, forecasting, and providing data sets.
Serve as a point of contact for internal and external requests for data/statistics.
Respond to statistical requests accurately and within a reasonable timeframe. Assist with conducting admissions validity studies in coordination with external agencies (e.g., ETS, College Board, ACT).
Ensure the accuracy of all data used in the EMSS division.
Direct, supervise, train, and mentor Enrollment Management Research and Analysis staff.
Manage and oversee the activities and priorities of all third-party vendors responsible for assisting with financial aid leveraging and recruitment predictive modeling.
Create and maintain statistical models of student flow through the university and use those models to simulate the effect of proposed changes to university practice, as well as to make short-term and long-term enrollment projections based on explicit assumptions.
Create and maintain effective yield models that advise admission and financial aid decisions and provide interval estimates of first-year enrollment.
Model scholarship-awarding strategies, subject to budgetary constraints and institutional priorities, that enable the university to wisely allocate merit aid.
Evaluate the impact of prospective student communications, recruitment travel, and admission events on prospect-to-applicant conversion rates and admitted student yield rates.
Evaluate the impact of current student communications and activities as they relate to influencing student retention and persistence outcomes.
Analyze and oversee admission’s annual matriculating and non-matriculating and other enrollment-related survey instruments.
Integrate concepts and data from various sources such as institutional databases, College Board, ACT, the National Student Clearinghouse, IPEDS (Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System), and other national data banks to create analyses that serve the university’s enrollment management needs.
Produce executive-level reports including an annual study of matriculating and non-matriculating admitted students.
Design appropriate maps, graphs, and tables and oversee their maintenance. Compile dashboards that provide clear, accessible statistics for decision-makers.
Regularly monitor admission and enrollment data throughout the cycle to detect anomalies that could indicate changes in student behavior.
Initiate, lead, define, develop, and produce original research projects addressing enrollment management questions and issues.
Develop and implement research methodologies including: Quantitative: identification and design of appropriate quantitative measures and instruments; survey design, deployment and analysis; bench-marking; and statistic modeling.
Attend and present at both regional and national conferences on various enrollment management related topics.
Serve on data, research, and IT-related campus and system-wide committees.
Responsible for creating and managing business intelligence, data policies, procedures and standards within EMSS. Represents EMSS at meetings and other events as requested.
Other duties as assigned.
