Under direction of the PMO Lead/Cloud Migration Architect, the Senior Project Manager applies advanced technical project management frameworks and methods and campus, medical center or Office of the President objectives to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Determines methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Manages projects of broad and diverse scope, size, impact, budget and / or project team size, with considerable impact to the organization. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the IT project plan, project schedule, budget, scope, status, requirements analysis, and issue management of the development and implementation of assigned projects. The incumbent serves as a single point of contact for large-scale, highly technical projects, coordinates meetings, drives tasks, and tracks and reports on project status, risks, and issues. The incumbent is accountable for capturing, compiling, tracking, managing, documenting, communicating and escalating status, issues, and risks. Additionally, as member of UCI OIT's Project Manager Office (PMO), the candidate will help shape how the PMO serves the campus. This effort includes development of the overall strategy, structure, policies, document templates, and tools that define OIT's project management life cycle. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education and community service goals of the University. OIT Project Management Office provides leadership and coordination of large cross-functional projects. Also develop and continually enhance project management guidelines and tools and educate project leaders throughout the university on utilizing project management best practices.
Five to ten years relevant experience with BA/BS in related field, or three to five years relevant experience with MA/MS in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Project Management in an IT environment. Five (5) years of direct IT management related work experience Relevant project management certifications (e.g., PMP) preferred or the ability to gain a certification. High proficiency using Microsoft Project, SmartSheet, JIRA, ServiceNow, Wiki, or other similar tools to create and update project schedules including dependencies, critical path, resources, estimates, budgets, and required repo Intermediate to advanced skills in MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Visio.. Strong experience managing multiple projects or large enterprise project with complex interdependencies. Strong ability to facilitating meetings with cross-functional (technical and business users) teams. Experience executing various Software/System Development Life Cycle processes (SDLC) including Waterfall and agile project management methodologies and techniques. Experience with requirements gathering, analysis and design, development tools and technologies, release and version control, contemporary testing methodologies, and deployment management Solid understanding of business or technical process changes, implementations, and deployments. Analytical ability sufficient to understand user requirements and translate them into technical terms to develop quantitative status reports and identify and quantify issues and risks. Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully collaborate with a broad range of personnel at all levels across the campus and with varying level of technical knowledge and/or project management concepts. Oral communication and presentation skills sufficient to explain business needs to technical personnel and technical information to business users. Superb written and verbal communication skills and the ability to create effective project plans and timelines and present them in a group setting. Ability to work effectively with external vendors and all levels of technical staff, management, and stakeholders. Excellent team player with a proven track record of working across a large distributed enterprise and a highly collaborative environment. Requires effective communication, time management and organization skills. Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts. Requires ability to assess campus, medical center or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
