Acts as the primary writer for the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DAR). Works with the Dean's office, key faculty and senior leadership to translate the Dean's priorities into compelling concept papers, gift proposals, and other materials for circulation among internal stakeholders and prospects, alumni, volunteers, and donors.
Conceptualizes, researches, and writes both internal and external communications for DAR. Develops content for leadership messaging and the creation of department-wide communication including leadership biographies, event materials, presentation content, talking points, speech writing and remarks.
Ensures materials are accurate and reflect well the objectives of the academic priorities and positions of the School in the philanthropic community. Seeks input from and vets materials with appropriate academic, administrative, and development leadership.
Participates in and leads major research projects needed to develop content for concept/position papers, ensuring HGSE is utilizing best practices in the field.
May travel as an active participant with fundraisers on donor calls to provide subject matter expertise during prospective donor meetings
Works with the DAR frontline team to prepare for and follow up from donor visits, including providing content for faculty and administrator briefings.
Develops, tracks, maintains, and shares information about gift-naming opportunities.
Develops and maintains an internal content and resource library and related training materials.
Partners with stewardship staff, developing and executing strategy to create content to highlight the impact of HGSE alumni in the field of education.
Analyzes data to inform strategic decisions and tactics, including using Business Intelligence tools; creating user-friendly and intuitive reports and presentations on key metrics, suitable for use with senior leadership and external committees and councils.
Will serve as the primary liaison between DAR and HGSE's Marketing and Communications office to ensure alignment on key messaging to external audiences.
Will represent DAR and serve on ad hoc committees focusing on School-wide marketing and communications strategies. This position will also engage and coordinate, as appropriate, with key internal stakeholders including the Dean's Office, Academic Affairs, Finance and other offices.

Bachelor's degree required, with a minimum of seven years of related work experience, preferably in an academic/fundraising setting.

Experience and familiarity with gift terms, gift acceptance and gift policy a plus.
Familiarity with the workings of Harvard a plus.
Computer literacy required. Must have experience with Windows and databases.
Able to take direction regarding overarching narratives for written materials and augment with relevant research and new ideas through own initiative and creativity.
Must be highly collaborative, team-focused and able to move projects forward with independence. Must be flexible, intellectually curious, passionate about learning and furthering the HGSE's mission in education and research and dedicated to being part of and contributing to an inclusive workplace and environment.
Experience in higher education and large research universities a plus.
