Reports to and works alongside the Chief Strategy Officer to future-proof our current strategy given constant changes within the automotive industry and all that influences it, by scouring the market for growth opportunities and possible disruption or competitive risks. Responsible for defining and developing tools, models, and frameworks for conducting research and analysis, working with internal and external sources to collect relevant data, coordinating and executing required analysis, and developing appropriate recommendations for presentation to the executive leadership team, including our Chief Executive Officer.
We are looking for a highly motivated, resourceful, team-oriented individual to conduct research, gap analysis and provide recommendations in alignment with the current strategy, participating in strategic and investment planning activities along with driving opportunities with limited oversight. Works alongside our Results Delivery Office and business leaders across the organization to build the capability of Piloting-Learning-Scaling opportunities the executive leadership team decide to pursue as a result of the work the incumbent completes.
Key duties and responsibilities
Initiatives are largely ad hoc, based upon evolving industry dynamics. Works independently on topics of diverse scope, leading the scanning and assessment of known and developing industry trends and changes, including competitive dynamics that require evaluation of a variety of factors and potential outcomes. Typical tasks include:
Finding reliable sources of insights and data.
Having the ability to sift the “wheat from the chaff” – identify and prioritize only meaningful insights and not drown in a sea of data and insights.
Document key observations and findings.
Analyze data, develop fact-based insights and prioritize any recommendations for business strategy changes with associated financial benefits.
Identify and define business disruption risks and build out mitigation recommendations.
Design and deliver detailed financial, statistical and strategic analyses leveraging best practice frameworks and tools.
Synthesize findings of the “biggies” into fact-based insights and practical, ready-to-implement recommendations.
Create and deliver impactful executive presentations of meaningful insights, opportunities, and threats from which the executive leadership team.
Support ongoing business intelligence, competitive tracking, and best practice efforts.
The ideal candidate will have experience in FMCG business consulting specific to M&A activity and/or corporate strategy development, as well as skills related to strategic analysis and business case development.
The ideal candidate will have an MBA and at least four years’ experience in Fast Moving Consumer Goods business consulting at any of the top five consulting firms.
Astute in the knowledge and proven track record of applying leading frameworks and tools that inform executive leadership decision-making specific to strategy development.
M&A activity and/or corporate strategy development, as well as skills related to strategic analysis and business case development.
Skilled at analyzing trends and opportunities arriving at clear decisions; able to distill information, gain clarity of ideas, synthesize, and then define next steps for execution.
Bright individual, with ability to combine analytic reason, creativity, and judgment; quick study, able to handle complex matters with multiple initiatives; able to deal effectively with strategic issues, as well as operational details.
Energetic and resourceful, with strong service orientation and positive can-do attitude; fully committed to the job and to deliver outstanding work; never satisfied with status quo, continually striving for excellence; enjoys working hands-on and mostly independently with little supervision.
Proven ability to analyze data, develop insights and recommend business strategy changes with associated financial benefits.
Excellent quantitative, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Record of leading through influence.
Experience and proven success in initiating and cultivating relationships with external parties.
Experience working in the automotive, engineering, or consumer goods sectors is a plus.
Thought leadership, change management, and project management experience.
Ability to interact with company personnel at all levels (regular interaction with senior executives both inside and outside of the business), build strong relationships throughout the organization, and understands business imperatives.
Ability to deal with ambiguity.
Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to a varied audience both verbally and in writing. Able to tell a compelling story about what tomorrow will be, to decision-makers who are mostly focused on the tactical realities of today.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Smartsheet a plus.
Ability to travel 25% - mostly within the Americas. Occasional international travel.
Ability to ensure an appropriate work-life balance – which is important to Interstate Batteries – with reasonable hours, greater flexibility and autonomy with travel away from home only when necessary.
