Research Reporting Analyst - Information Technology Services 14742
Information Technology Services (ITS) at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Research Reporting Analyst. West Virginia University is a land grant, Carnegie-designated R1 high activity research university. Its over 2,000 researchers are supported by Kuali Coeus, a document management system which houses proposal development, grant administration, and compliance. As a member of the Enterprise Applications team, the Research Reporting Analyst utilizes technical and application analytical skills to analyze the WVU Research Corporation's organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of data structures in support of our enterprise reporting needs. This position is also responsible for the creation, testing, and automated distribution of complex SQL, Data Blocks, Reports and Dashboards.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate:
Effectively utilizes technical/application analytical skills to analyze WVU's organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation in support of our enterprise reporting needs.
Collaborates and interacts with business users to gather business requirements. Translates those requirements into functional and technical specifications.
Leads the design and implementation of all the components of WVU's enterprise reporting infrastructure (e.g. Metadata, Models, ETL, Argos Data Blocks, OBIEE RPD, Reports, and Dashboards).
Identifies institutional weaknesses in reporting, data governance, and data standards, recommending alternatives and solutions to deliver continues improvement in WVU's enterprise reporting and analytic capabilities. Lead agreed upon initiatives.
Leads efforts for capacity planning and tuning for performance of WVU reporting systems and tools.
Serves as the liaison with technical and functional staff related to specific business applications. Works effectively with technical and functional staff by sharing knowledge and ideas.
Communicates information clearly, accurately, and timely to team members and business users. Puts forth the efforts necessary to complete project tasks successfully.
Establishes positive, professional relationship with staff. Establishes proper communication channels with project and team personnel and respond appropriately to all concerns.
Works effectively with others to accomplish project deliverables by sharing knowledge and ideas. Communicates information clearly, accurately and timely to project team members. Puts forth the efforts necessary to complete tasks successfully.
Supports WVU's confidentiality and security policies and ensures reporting compliance.
Understands and works toward the attainment of WVU's strategic and operational goals. Initiates solutions to perceived gaps and weaknesses in organizational processes or procedures.
Communicates clearly and concisely in written and oral formats. Fosters an environment of teamwork and professionalism.
A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.
Combination of four (4) or more years:
Relational databases and data structures is required. Oracle 12c is preferred. Non-relational databases and aggregation is preferred.
SQL is required. SQL and PL/SQL is preferred.
Leading small to medium sized project teams to deliver against project timelines is required.
Experience with data analysis/reporting is required. Argos or Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) is preferred.
Either Document Management System (Kuali Coeus is preferred) OR Enterprise Resource Planning System (Oracle Enterprise Business Suite Grant/Financial module is preferred).
Aptitude for statistics, analytical thinking, and solving complex problems.
Demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
Ability to drive discussions with multiple subject matter experts to draw out their knowledge and bring them to a consensus.
Skills in communication (both oral and written), problem solving, and process analysis.
Understanding of IT processes and system flow.
Comfortable communicating and presenting to technical and business resources, including technical and non-technical personnel).
Working knowledge of relational databases and structures. Working knowledge of non-relational databases is preferred.
Proven experience in SQL and/or PL/SQL.
Ability to learn and adjust to changing technical environments.
Working knowledge of data analysis techniques.
Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio programs.
Broad knowledge of development methodologies.
