Dept Marketing Statement Institutional Research, Assessment, and Policy Studies (IRAPS) is a central unit in the Office of Planning and Budget, the principal office supporting the Chancellor and Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor in the areas of academic, capital, enrollment, and financial planning, policy analysis and fiscal administration. IRAPS supports strategic planning and data-driven decision making and assessment by providing timely, accurate, consistent and reliable information. IRAPS's major responsibilities are for reporting and analysis of institutional data, administration and analysis of campus surveys, and support for learning outcomes assessment.
Involves activities associated with supporting strategic planning and decision making through the analysis, presentation, and distribution of institutional related research data. Includes planning and analytical studies, assessment, and reporting on data related to students, academic and non-academic employees, financial, and facilities. May be involved with compliance with informational requests from external agencies.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Under the general direction of the Asst. Director of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Policy Studies (IRAPS), the Institutional Research Analyst aggregates, analyzes, and interprets student and other academic data for regular internal and external reporting and ad hoc studies, and conducts research in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, enrollment planning, curricular capacity, student progress and success, instructional workload, institutional effectiveness and program evaluation. The incumbent supports the central administration as well as faculty and staff administrators throughout campus.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: $51,100 - $89,200 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Job Duties 35% - Reporting and Analytics
Develop and revise queries and reports using campus business intelligence tools (i.e. InfoView, Tableau, SPSS, Excel) to meet information needs and to address ongoing and ad hoc reporting requirements, using agreed-upon standard definitions and methodologies.
Design interactive infographics to enhance analysis, accessibility and presentation of institutional data.
Produce historical campus level and program specific reports on a quarterly or annual production schedule; Maintain information on unit's website; and provide data and information for public information requests, external surveys and for mandatory compliance reporting.
30% - Data Modeling and Forecasting
Perform data analysis and predictive modeling using a variety of statistical techniques for admissions forecasting, enrollment projections and predicting curricular demand and graduation outcomes.
Working collaboratively and in consultation with other campus units, design and implement evaluations of policies, programs and initiatives using appropriate research methods and statistical techniques. Produce written and oral reports with conclusions, implications, and recommendations.
25% - Strategic Planning and Decision Support
Provide ad hoc reporting and analytic support to principal officers, academic senate committees and other decision making bodies.
Gather, analyze and present data and information in support of key strategic planning initiatives, including identifying sources, and appropriate comparative and benchmarking data.
Develop dashboards for academic planning that display key metrics for campus leadership.
5% - Data Management
Working closely with the Data Management unit, participate in the development of institutional databases by identifying data needs, requirements, specifications and sources.
Assure the validity and quality of campus data submissions to external agencies and systems, including the UC Office of the President.
5% - Professional Development and Service
Pursue opportunities to enhance expertise in areas of data science, institutional research, higher education, and assessment to keep skills current.
Serve on campus wide committees and workgroups as appropriate; interact with peers across UC system and at UC Office of the President.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Demonstrated experience producing data analytics and/or dashboards.
Demonstrated experience conducting applied social science or educational research, including research methodology, program evaluation, and descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
Proficiency accessing information stored in large data systems and use of computer applications, including databases, business intelligence, statistical, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
Excellent analytical skills sufficient to analyze and interpret written material and quantitative data, and to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the abilities to write clear and concise reports and memoranda, and to make public presentations to large groups and explain complex issues.
Abilities to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team toward common goals, and to coordinate efforts and collaborate with a variety of individuals. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities to meet unit, campus and university deadlines.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete a variety of assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy, and to maintain accurate and detailed records.
Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with senior administration, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
