The BI Architect is responsible for overall design of data and reporting solutions developed by the software development team in partnership with eCornell's marketing, operations and finance teams. The BI Architect is responsible for the design, development, implementation and oversight of data structures of the data warehouse; the ETL of data from OLTP systems to the warehouse and the visualization of the data through Tableau reports. The BI Architect will envision and create solutions that meet requirements; model the components of infrastructure and their points of integration; prove the feasibility of a design; create the design artifacts that are required to deliver and to maintain the infrastructure; guide a solution through to its completion; and ultimately to production support.
Collaborate with business and technical resources to lead the planning and requirement gathering phases, including estimate, develop, test and deliver quality BI solutions.
Design, develop, manage and update logical and physical data models for the BI data marts.
Design and development of integration architecture for BI and related data analytic solutions. This involves developing robust solutions using eCornell current and future infrastructure in conjunction with vendor based BI tools, including but not limited to AWS Glue, Lambda, Redshift and Tableau.
Timely support for BI / data analytic solutions with a focus on developing the architecture and internal integration necessary to maximize these solutions.
Formulates and recommends standards for achieving maximum performance and efficiency of the DW ecosystem.
Follow market trends for COTS and open source tools. Provide architectural expertise and thought leadership for tools' evaluation and recommendation.
Resolving system test and production problems (including occurrences after normal working hours). This should include any necessary documentation or communication of information to customers affected.
Learning quickly and providing solutions using current and future eCornell BI Toolset(s).
Actively participate in assigned project teams, acting as experts in techniques and methods for producing BI solutions.
Developing and maintaining documentation/standards
What we need:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, engineering or related technical discipline with 5-7 experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five (5) years of related experience in one of the following: data collection/aggregation, Dimensional/STAR Data Modeling, ETL development using Glue and Lambda, Dashboard Design & Development using Tableau.
5+ years of experience delivering Business Intelligence solutions
Proficient with SQL and data design.
Proficient in AWS Glue using PySPARK, AWS Lambda, AWS Redshift and Tableau.
Experience with Software Development Life Cycle and software engineering methodologies, including requirement gathering and analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, documentation, testing and knowledge transfer.
Must enjoy and have demonstrated successful experience in a rapidly changing, continual learning IT/Business environment.
Demonstrated proficiency developing technical skills and performing problem solving, analysis.
Demonstration of excellent technical, verbal and written communications skills and ability to multi-task within a team-oriented environment.
Possess positive attitude, motivated and willingness to learn and work well with others.
Ability to document solutions, designs, issues, etc.
Able to work in a team-oriented, fast paced, deadline driven, extremely complex, and rapidly changing IT environment.
Experience in supporting enterprise level Business intelligence tools (Cognos, OBIEE, Business Objects etc.) at a senior level.
Understanding of dimensional modeling concepts.
